“The costume, which fits a child aged approximately 5-7, was made by Maura Hoey, a dressmaker who lived in Blacklion. The Dublin blue wool and cream coloured bánín* wool material was purchased in Bray. Mum did all the embroidery, a skill she learned at the ICA** ( Irish Countrywomen’s Association) in Delgany.”
*Irish Wool Báinín from Irish Gaelic báinín , diminutive of bán white. Traditionally made from un-dyed cream-coloured báinín (pronounced “bawneen”) yarn made from sheep’s wool.

The photo doesn’t show the dress being worn, but rather the teacher, her assistant (her daughter) and a male and female dancer from the school.
