Social Media Volunteer Role

The Museum of Childhood Ireland is seeking a social media volunteer with expertise in Digital Marketing. The main aspect of this role is to assist us in developing our online presence across LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, BlueSky and Twitter / X so as to build awareness of the island wide museum. 

As the social media volunteer, you are a valued member of the Museum’s Marketing team, responsible for maintaining our social media presence and promoting positive community engagement, enhancing the visibility of our brand and promoting the Museum’s collections, events and initiatives. You will oversee the Museum’s social media community serving as the liaison between the Museum and its social media audience, preparing and posting organic social content, monitoring social accounts for comments, and helping to develop and maintain the content calendar.

The social media volunteer will also coordinate the capturing of social media analytics to support analysis.

Specifically, you will

  • Maintain social media profiles on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, BlueSky and Twitter / X, and be responsible for producing interesting and engaging content which drives engagement with the Museum.
  • Provide daily community management for the Museum’s social media accounts, including timely community moderation, audience engagement, and audience nurturing.
  • Maintain consistent social channel branding utilising the Museum’s approved branded social media templates and approved hashtags.
  • Coordinate the social media content calendar and the posting of content across all of our social media channels while working with our Marketing lead as well as in tandem with our various Museum Team leads, including: Children’s Advisory; Education; History; Literature, and; Children’s Rights.
  • Ensure timely advance calendar planning, scheduling and execution of posts for each of our Museum Teams.
  • Execute social media posts, enabling content deployment for the Museum’s events and initiatives as well as for timely content linked to annual days and events such as Safer Internet Day, World Children’s Day, Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir, Cruinniú nan Óg, Heritage Week, Bloomsday, International Day of Play, International Children’s Day etc.
  • Collaborate and ideate on social content with team leads and stakeholders across the Museum.
  • Grow our social media presence while maintaining responsibility for helping achieve set KPIs.
  • Posts must follow the museum’s tone of voice as well as containing key messages as agreed by the Marketing Lead.
  • Produce original and campaign-related content (graphic, video, and copy) that helps move the Museum’s mission forward following our overall strategy.
  • Stay abreast of key trends in social media, the museum industry, social channels, and social media listening tools to help advance the Museum’s messaging of its mission.
  • Maintain social analytics for social performance reports for Board and Museum Team meetings and external partners such as the Irish Museums Association, Heritage Council, the Ireland Funds, Dunard Fund USA among others.
  • Produce comprehensive monthly performance reports for deployed social media content and campaigns.
  • Join a monthly marketing meeting via Zoom.

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • Experience in successful social media marketing. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Museum experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in using and creating content and social media campaigns in a museum, charity or other business setting for social media channels such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, BlueSky and Twitter/ X.  
  • An understanding of and commitment to the Museum’s mission and values.
  • Ability to carry out the core responsibilities as outlined above.
  • Have the time, interest, experience and the commitment to fulfil the role.
  • Strong short-form video production skills.
  • Proven verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to interact with online social media visitors, answering questions and facilitating discussion.
  • Demonstrated experience with social media metrics, reporting and analytics.
  • Proficiency with Canva, Adobe Suite (Rush, Premiere, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Cultural competency to collaborate and coordinate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
