Olivia Daly’s Harry Potter Doll House 2015

From an upcycled Barbie house

“My daughter Olivia who was 12 years old, and I designed the Harry Potter* house together. She was a big Harry Potter fan for years. She listened to the audio books most nights (she has dyslexia but had a passion for a good story). The movies had also been watched numerous times and her knowledge on the subject even helped her school quiz team hugely!

The Dolls house was originally her Barbie house but was remodelled to be a Harry Potter house. We like to “make something out of nothing” – most of our Halloween/world book day costumes are home made too.

The outer surfaces of the original house were spray painted and the floors covered using craft paper. We sourced all the potion bottles and props from craft shops, printed the labels and the picture frames, and repainted the furniture. All the dolls are well played with but all still functioning.

Now the time has come to pass the much loved and well played with house along and we are delighted that it is going to the Museum of Childhood Ireland, where it can become a part of Ireland’s social history and be enjoyed by everyone for years to come.”
