This is a two-story metal fronted dolls’ house. It is a Triang Doll house model number 65.
The house was given to Rose by her parents at Christmas 1965 or 1966. Her mother Berney recalled buying it in a shop at the top of Roche’s Street in Limerick. The house was almost empty when it arrived, but over the following five years or so, her parents would add to the furniture at birthday time, and Santy at Christmas, until it was finished.
Other items pressed into service in the doll house, included the ‘Knock’ TV, and the gilt garden set of circular table and two chairs (each flat surface showing a photo of an Irish tourism site – Athlone, the Lakes of Killarney, Blarney Castle etc).
Rose’s uncle Kevin from Salthill, Galway, gave her the TV, which was actually a souvenir from Knock, Ireland, showing photos of a variety of beauty spots across the country. It made for the perfect doll house TV!
Her father Seán brought back the pink upholstered wooden sitting room suite of furniture from a business trip to Sweden. Its minimalist Scandinavian design made it the most exotic item of furniture in the doll house.
